Ajmal Naqshbandi hasn’t been forgotten

Ajmal Naqshbandi worked as a guide, translator and a fixer for visiting foreign reporters, arranging meetings with government officials as well as with the members of the Taliban. He was  kidnapped, held for ransom, betrayed and then beheaded by the Taliban.  His client, the Italian reporter Daniele Mastrogiacomo was freed in exchange for the release of Taliban prisoners but Ajmal was perhaps considered unworthy of any prisoner exchange deals by the Karzai administration. The Italians did little to secure his release and once he was dead, barely came up with a statement of condemnation.

In line with their tradition of showing quality documentaries, HBO has acquired Fixer: The Taking of Ajmal Naqshbandi which follows Ajmal’s assignment with an American journalist six months before his abduction. It premiers on HBO on Monday, August 17.

I have so far been unable to find a good quality trailer of the documentary. The following one on YouTube may hurt your eyes. Also, it has no sound.

Here is a link to the film’s official website.
